SUMMARY:Webinar - How To Tame High Cognitive Load In eLearning
DESCRIPTION:Did you ever experience “firehose training?” That’s when learners are flooded with content\, without regard for how they perceive\, process and retain it. Information overload is a significant hindrance to effective learning and retention. But\, can we do anything about it? Fortunately\, we can. Over the decades\, cognitive load theory has been researched and refined. We now know there are ways to reduce high cognitive load. \nPlease join UCI Division of Continuing Education in welcoming Connie Malamed (a.k.a. The eLearning Coach) to explore a model of how we learn\, what high cognitive load really means\, and instructional strategies you can use to reduce high cognitive load.

SUMMARY:Webinar - Convert Classroom Training to Blended Learning using your Creativity & Adobe Technology
DESCRIPTION:Blended learning is a common buzz phrase in L&D\, and it’s one that deserves attention. You may even deliver the same course content in multiple delivery formats so learners can choose how they want to learn. \nMixing and matching many delivery formats\, including videos\, games\, virtual reality (VR) activities\, can help you as an L&D manager to create a learning environment that is engaging and cost-effective. \nJoin us for this interactive session with Katrina Marie Baker presenting ways to make developing and delivering blended learning programs easier\, using learning technology! \nKatrina Marie Baker will provide food for thought on the following points: \n\nBenefits of blended learning as they relate to the learner and organization\nA cost comparison of 100% instructor-led training (ILT) versus blended learning\nHow to incorporate classroom experiences with other types of course content to engage learners\nWays learning technology can add value and make it easier to develop and deliver blended learning\nUnderstand how the Fluidic player can help you leverage fully blended courses in your training programs

SUMMARY:Webinar | Universal Design for Learning: Creating Learning for All
DESCRIPTION:Schools and the workplace are filled with diverse learners. One-size-fits-all eLearning may not meet all learners’ needs. How can we design eLearning and our training materials to reduce barriers and meet the needs of all learners? Please join UCI Division of Continuing Education in welcoming Dr. Jean Marrapodi\, Senior Learning Architect for Illumina Interactive Learning\, as she presents Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and its set of principles for curriculum development that give all individuals equal opportunities to learn. \nYou will discover an educational framework based on research in the learning sciences (including cognitive neuroscience) that guides the development of flexible learning environments that can accommodate individual learning differences. \nAt the end of the session\, you will recognize changes that are needed in your design practices and be able to implement UDL paradigms moving forward. \n\n\n\nPresented by:\nUCI Division of Continuing Education

SUMMARY:Webinar - 7 Things to Consider Before Developing an Online Course
DESCRIPTION:This webinar gives you strategies to maximize your planning and design time frame? all leading to a more efficient course (i.e. less stress for you when you’re teaching) and a better experience for your students. Join us on January 31 for 7 Things to Consider Before Developing an Online Course\, a Magna Online Seminar led by Brian Udermann\, PhD. You’ll learn how to allow for adequate time to develop a course\, explore avenues to find course content\, prioritize the content students need to learn\, create an instructor participation plan\, determine what course assessments will be used\, estimate the overall workload associated with developing and teaching an online course\, and use existing faculty support services available to help with course design and planning. \nLearning Goals \n\nUnderstanding the benefits of time spent planning on the front-end of developing online courses and how this can lead to both decreased stress for faculty and increased course quality.\nLearn step-by-step planning and preparation actions that will positively impact identifying and developing course content\, activities\, and assessments.\nIdentify the benefits of developing an instructor participation plan\, determining how technology will be used in a course\, and considering workload management in the early stages of course design and development.\n\n  \n\n\n\nPresented by:\nMagna Publications Webinar

SUMMARY:ELI Webinar | Sustainable Innovation + Faculty Choice + Student-Centered Design = NGDLE
DESCRIPTION:We all have faculty who decide to use new\, unsupported learning technologies. Despite the lack of IT support\, it may be the best choice for their particular course or pedagogy. \nAny given semester\, students might have four or more different courses where each faculty member has introduced different platforms or has implemented some of the same tools differently. IT staff\, while they embrace innovation\, are challenged by the work needed to support the existing and official solutions their organizations use\, and it becomes difficult to scale the evaluation and integration of new and emerging tools while ensuring data security\, FERPA compliance\, and accessibility. \nHear how teams at Penn State\, Duke\, and Indiana University are working on building their next generation digital learning environments. Fueled by open-source technology and standards\, they are embracing user desires by allowing pedagogy and personalization to inform and shape technology selection in sustainably implemented ecosystems. \nOutcomes\n\nUnderstand differing interpretations of NGDLE and the role campus academic and IT culture play in defining and realizing NGDLE\nUnderstand how NGDLE can enable choice at the university\, school\, and faculty levels while providing better user experiences for students\nExplore strategies for enabling sustainable innovation at scale
