SUMMARY:Tell me about Neuroteach!
DESCRIPTION:A recap and discussion of the book by Glenn Whitman and Ian Kelleher \n  \nThere’s a new category of literature regarding teaching & learning\, it’s called Mind/Brain/Education or MBE. The book “Neuroteach: Brain Science and the Future of Education” describes this new evidence-informed genre. The book also discusses effective and not-so-effective teaching methods that leverage the body of knowledge regarding brain anatomy and physiology. Of particular interest to most educators is “The Top Twelve Research-Informed Strategies Every Teacher Should Be Doing with Every Student”. During this presentation\, we will recap the major points discussed in the book and review the Top 12 list. Come hear and discuss what the current research on teaching & learning and the brain tells us should be best practice in the classroom.

SUMMARY:Webinar | How to Switch Between Online and In-Person Grading (EDUCAUSE)
DESCRIPTION:In 2015\, Northwestern University began looking for a software solution to streamline its grading process. In Crowdmark\, the university found a solution that not only increased grading speed but also allowed instructors to give richer feedback while ensuring grading consistency. Crowdmark is now used by faculty throughout the institution\, including in the Economics\, Mathematics\, Physics\, Chemistry\, and Psychology Departments. As the pandemic lingers\, Northwestern has been able to move seamlessly between in-person and online assessments\, even for large-scale classes and handwritten work. Join faculty presenters as they discuss how Northwestern University adopted and rolled out Crowdmark. Learn how the Teaching & Learning Technologies department supports instructors and how grading has improved since the implementation of Crowdmark. \nOutcomes\n\nLearn how Northwestern University used Crowdmark to assess large courses and grade handwritten work during the pandemic\nDiscover how Northwestern was able to streamline grading processes while giving richer and more cause\nconsistent feedback\nUnderstand how Northwestern University uses Crowdmark to complement the LMS\, measure student learning\, and coordinate grading teams\n\nPresenters:  Victoria Getis | Director\, NUIT IT Services and Support – Teaching & Learning Technologies\, Northwestern University \nStephanie Knezz | Assistant Professor of Instruction\, Northwestern University \nAaron Peterson | Associate Professor of Instruction\, Northwestern University \n

SUMMARY:Get to know OSCQR—The Course Evaluation Rubric
DESCRIPTION:Created by a team of educators from SUNY (The State University of New York)\, the OSCQR rubric is used as a customizable tool for online quality course review. From the SUNY website\, the OSCQR rubric is described as “unique and differs from other online course quality rubrics in several ways. It is not restricted to mature online courses. The rubric can be used formatively with new online faculty to help guide\, inform\, and influence the design of their new online courses\, and it is non-evaluative.” \n  \nIn this session\, the CETL Instructional Designers will take learners through the various criteria within the OSCQR rubric and will describe the process of online course review and evaluation. \n  \nLearning Objectives: \n\nList and describe the criteria within the OSCQR rubric.\nDescribe the Action Plan section of the rubric and how it is used.\nDescribe and discuss the process of online course review and evaluation\, including the process of creating an action plan.

SUMMARY:Facilitator Development Series
DESCRIPTION:As competency-based education expands across the health professions the methods we use in the classroom also expand in order to promote active learning both inside and outside of the classroom. While we develop new learner skills through a competency-based approach we must also develop new faculty skills to meet the expanding needs for our students to attain competence. Both small group and large classroom teaching must adapt and expand how we teach and how we engage with learners.\n\nIn this 8-week faculty development series we will explore various teaching techniques and facilitator skills that can be used in the classrooms\, laboratories\, simulations\, and in clinical practice sites. The series will progress through 8 sessions. Each session will last 1 hour and is broken down into a theory burst about a specific teaching technique or facilitator skill\, followed by a practice period. The session will end with a debrief along with making specific plans to use the technique/skill with learners. Sessions will occur every other Friday over the course of a semester. While there is a progression in the skills focused upon faculty are welcome to sign up and participate in any of the sessions. The series will run the length of the Spring semester\nThe Second session is scheduled for Friday\, January 21\, 2022 from 3-4 PM via Zoom. Subsequent sessions are scheduled for the same time every other Friday. Faculty across both campuses and clinical sites are welcome to attend.

SUMMARY:This Meeting Could have Been an Email.
DESCRIPTION:Meeting overload was a problem before the pandemic\, but now with back-to-back Zoom meetings instead of the long Esplanade walks to our conference room destination\, we have more time…and more time means more meetings. Advice on facilitating better meetings is plentiful\, but often skips a crucial first step: asking yourself whether you need to have a meeting in the first place. \n  \nDuring this session\, we will uncover the answer to the question that has plagued our Outlook calendars for years…Could this meeting have been an email? \n  \nLearning Objectives: \n– Identify if a meeting should be an email by using a simple flowchart. \n– List the steps that can be taken to maximize meeting effectiveness. \n– Explain how to effectively write a structured email to help reduce meetings

SUMMARY:Webinar - Member QuickTalk | Microcredentialing | Educause
DESCRIPTION:As one of the 2021 EDUCAUSE Teaching and Learning Horizon Report key technologies and practices\, microcredentials are quickly becoming a mainstay of the higher education landscape. But institutions are at varying stages of maturity\, and there are many opportunities to learn from each other. \nJoin your peers in conversation about how higher ed is taking credentials to the next level. Share lessons learned by discussing momentum points\, possible barriers\, and important considerations. \nThis is the first step in what will be a number of activities guided by this discussion. We plan to develop more resources to support your institution’s efforts and make the implementation of microcredentials easier. Bring along your ideas and questions for the community to discuss. No matter what stage you are in\, everyone has something to contribute. \n  \nFacilitated by:  Sherri Braxton\, Senior Director for Digital Innovation\, Bowdoin College \n                          Kelly Hoyland\, Higher Education Program Manager\, IMS Global Learning Consortium \n                          Meena Naik\, Program Director Career connect\, University of North Texas \n                          Kathe Pelletier\, Director\, Teaching and Learning Program\, EDUCAUSE \n                          Kristi Wold-McCormick\, Assistant vice Provost and University Registrar\, University of Colorado Boulder
