SUMMARY:Webinar | Level Up: Gamifying an Asynchronous Course on Designing Games for Learning through Modeling\, Authenticity\, and Learner Autonomy
DESCRIPTION:While the success of digital games in education continues to validate the improvement to motivation\, engagement and social influence (Groening & Binnewies\, 2019; Lopez & Tucker\, 2019)\, the impact for asynchronous adult education remains ambiguous. In a substantial course redesign\, we attempted to address notable aspects of gamification within a course that teaches how to design games for learning through higher-order skills. The course incorporates aspects of Knowles Theory of Andragogy to help drive our use of modeling\, authenticity\, and autonomy. \nAs befits a course that focuses on the design of games for learning\, we used a number of instructional design techniques unique to gamification. Learners role-played as trainees in a unique training opportunity named Why So Serious Games Academy led by a team of gaming guides — the instructor(s) — and the facilitator\, Arch McGee. Arch McGee\, a pedagogical agent\, presents as a dynamic character within the course to guide learners through the content asynchronously. As with any game\, each Level contains a custom progress bar for the various activities built within each module. These progress bars help communicate the goals. The course strives to enable learners to feel present within the abstract concepts of game design as they engage with higher-order learning objectives

DESCRIPTION:As faculty do you think there are better ways to increase your students engagement and consequently increase their grades? As staff do you believe there are optimal ways to improve the student experience? Bring your dilemma and together by using the latest problem solving  processes such as Design Thinking\, Gamestorming and User Experience design\, we will challenge assumptions and redefine problems in an attempt to identify alternative strategies and solutions. \n  \nWhat is? \nDesign Thinking is a systematic process of thinking which empowers even the most traditional thinker to develop new\, innovative solutions to the problem at hand. Everybody can be creative by following this process – it’s human-centered creativity with purpose. \nGamestorming is a set of practices for facilitating innovation. A facilitator leads a group towards some goal by way of a game\, a structured activity that provides scope for thinking freely\, even playfully. \nUser Experience Design is the process of manipulating user behavior through usability\, usefulness\, and desirability provided in the interaction with a product. \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Designing better learning experiences using Gamification elements
DESCRIPTION:Gamification is the concept of applying game-design elements (e.g. point scoring\, competition\, rewards) to drive game-like behavior in non-game settings to make them more fun and engaging. Already video games aimed at teaching medical education are making their ways into schools. These games do not replace lectures; instead they reinforce the curriculum in a way that is both interactive and entertaining. \n \nIn a recent report\, medical students report significantly higher rates of burnout when compared to age-matched fellow college graduates. Too often medical students lose their motivation because of emotional exhaustion\, depersonalization and a diminished sense of personal accomplishment. Medical students should no longer see their education as a challenge to overcome. They should see it as a game that can be won.\n\n\nby Abigail Cline at Medical College of Georgia\n\n \nIn this training you will learn about:\n \nWhat is Gamification and the “Flow” theory?\n \nWhat are the gaming elements that make games so engaging? \n \nHow to design better learning experiences using gaming elements to drive students engagement?
