SUMMARY:Strategies on Detecting Authority and Misinformation Online
DESCRIPTION:In this digital age\, online users\, regardless of their background or credentials\, can easily create\, interpret\, and disseminate information. With a plethora of information being so readily available\, it is essential for users to develop a skill set that can distinguish between credible information\, misinformation\, and disinformation. Additionally\, understanding how information evolves from a primary source to a secondary source will also aid users’ understanding of information creation and interpretation. This is a rescheduled National Library Week 2023 presentation. \nAt the end of this presentation\, you will be able to: \n\nDistinguish between misinformation and disinformation.\nList 3-5 examples of a primary source and a secondary source.\nEvaluate the credibility of sources using at least one strategy discussed during the presentation.\nBrainstorm helpful dialogues that foster critical thinking skills among students and peers.
