SUMMARY:7 Things You Should Know About Mental Health and Higher Education
DESCRIPTION:“Mental health has become the subject of open\, honest discussion in higher education and beyond. Fallout from the pandemic thrust mental health into an even broader\, brighter spotlight\, exposing long-standing sources of stress\, anxiety\, and depression and creating new ones. Mental health is integral to one’s ability to succeed academically\, and colleges and universities must work to expose the sources and consequences of mental health disorders and find ways to address them.” \n  \nIn this session we will discuss the 7 Things You Should Know About as outlined by the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative.

SUMMARY:Research Posters: Turning Drab into Fab
DESCRIPTION:We’ve seen them…we’ve made them…and we’ve walked right past them…Research Posters. \n  \nThe purpose of a research poster is to visually represent the general overview\, data\, and most relevant findings of a research project. When preparing to design your poster you’ve likely taken your thoughtful research or well-drafted manuscript and you’ve widdled it down to the bare bones with just a few remaining sentences; next you probably chopped those sentences into bullet points and then plopped those well-crafted statements into a sterile three-or-four column template\, adorned with some sort of chart\, cladly themed in the university colors. \n  \nWe’ve been using the same academic research poster templates for the last three decades. Why? \nScience has advanced tremendously since the 90’s\, why hasn’t research poster design? \n  \nIn this session\, we will: \n\ndiscuss research poster basics\ncritique traditional poster design\napply updated design techniques\nrecognize better poster design 2.0\nexplain where to go for help

SUMMARY:KJA Grant Development Workshop: Concept Planning and It’s Role in Developing a Competitive Grant Proposal
DESCRIPTION:The KJA Grant Development Workshop will combine classic education/seminar-style information\, as well as active learning through group brainstorming activities and discussions to deepen participant understanding of the grant development process and its role in the lifecycle of a grant. This training will focus on how to develop a concept paper that will lay the foundation for a quality grant proposal and position an applicant for success. This fun-filled session will explore basic tips and tools for program development and project planning to prepare you to submit compelling proposals that align with your mission and meet your organizational needs. \nLearning Objective: By the end of this session\, participants will learn about key planning documents that enhance the grant development process and improve the likelihood for successful implementation. \n  \nPresenters: \n  \nKim Joyce\, GPC\nKimberly Rogers\, GPC \n  \nKim Joyce\, GPC (Grant Professional Certified)\, a native of Phoenix\, began her career in education and has been involved with the nonprofit sector as a grant professional\, fundraising professional\, and volunteer for over 20 years. In 2010\, Kim founded her grant writing firm\, Kim Joyce & Associates\, which provides services in the areas of grant writing\, prospect research\, grant writing training\, grant office assessments\, donor cultivation coaching\, and nonprofit capacity building. \nKim’s clients have included nonprofits providing services in the areas of health and human services\, education\, at-risk youth\, homelessness\, healthcare\, the arts\, charter schools\, and faith-based organizations\, as well as institutes of higher education\, school districts\, tribes\, and units of local government. Her firm\, one of the largest in Arizona\, is comprised of highly skilled employees and subcontractors from across the nation and has assisted clients in receiving grant awards of more than $159 million. \nTwo distinctions set Kim apart from her peers in the industry: she is one of only 21 GPCs in the state of Arizona\, and she is one of only 32 GPA Grant Professionals Association (GPA) Approved Trainers in the world. Kim earned her GPC certification through the Grant Professionals Certification Institute (GPCI) and is also a Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) Continuing Education Approved Provider. \nKim is a proud member of GPA – Arizona Founding Chapter\, the Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits\, the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP)\, the National Grants Management Association (NGMA)\, and serves as a Board Member of the GPCI. She enjoys giving back to the community\, both personally\, and professionally. Kim previously served as the Board Secretary of the GPA – Arizona Founding Chapter and on various local foundation and government review panels\, such as Valley of the Sun United Way\, the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission\, and the City of Phoenix CDBG grant review panel. \n  \nKimberly Rogers\, GPC\, has a diverse background and over 20 years of grant writing experience at the local\, county\, state\, and federal level. With a passion for public health\, she has held numerous positions in the public health\, behavioral health\, and social service fields\, giving her the opportunity to improve her programmatic and grants management skills in the governmental and nonprofit sectors. She received her GPC grant credential in 2017\, was a presenter at the 2018 Grant Professional Association Annual Conference\, and currently serves on the Grant Professional Certification Institute Board of Directors. \nAs a former Vice President of Grants for a national behavioral health organization\, Kimberly is well rounded in her understanding of grant management and fiscal accountability at the federal\, state\, and local levels. Her grant portfolio includes primary and behavioral health care proposals\, as well as innovative grants focusing on special populations or issues\, including veterans’ services\, youth development\, LGBTQ+ programs\, as well as social justice\, corrections\, and the southern border crisis. Kimberly graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from American Military University. \n

SUMMARY:New Guidance for NIH Biosketches and Other Support Format
DESCRIPTION:In an effort to support strong collaboration between Federal research agencies\, NIH has made every effort to align the Biographical Sketch (Biosketch) and Other Support format page with the guidance issued by the Office of Science and Technology Policy Joint Committee on the Research Environment. As a result\, NIH has updated its application forms and instructions to support the need for applicants and recipients to provide full transparency and disclosure of all research activities\, foreign and domestic. \nThese changes primarily impact proposal submission\, JIT\, and RPPR submissions for due dates on or after May 25\, 2021. \n  \nIn this CETL session\, we will cover most of the upcoming changes to the NIH Biographical Sketch and Other Support Format page.
