SUMMARY:20 Minute Mentor: Using Authentic Assessment to Assess Student Learning
DESCRIPTION:This 20-minute mentor discusses authentic assessments that can best assess student learning. Assessment can be a scary word\, but it doesn’t have to be. Instead\, it should focus on letting faculty measure a student’s growth and how to tell if learning is taking place. Michael G. Strawser\, PhD\, Assistant Professor at the University of Central Florida discusses how he uses authentic assessments in their classroom. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nWhat is an authentic assessment?\nList and describe the key concepts and components of authentic assessment.\nExplain the importance of student-centered learning and how its relevant to course design and assessment.\nDiscuss the difficulties of implementing authentic assessment methods in teaching and learning\, considering their holistic and transformative nature and its benefits.

SUMMARY:Webinar | Our Journey To Exemplary: Using the OLC Quality Scorecard for the Administration of Online Programs
DESCRIPTION:Proving that quality exists within online education programs can be a daunting and complex task. Typically\, metrics such as course completion\, student logins\, survey responses\, and internal reviews are used to demonstrate engagement and quality outcomes. However\, these instruments lack the authority of a rigorous program review by an outside body of experts. \n\nIn this webinar\, we will introduce you to our experience with the Online Learning Consortium’s Quality Scorecard for the Administration of Online Programs (OLC QSAOP) and tell the story of our journey and experience of the quality program review process. We will share how we planned\, implemented\, executed\, engaged stakeholders\, and collaborated across our institution to complete our internal review\, and how we are leveraging the OLC external review findings report to continuously improve our online program. \nFurthermore\, you will be able to discuss which resources and approaches we have used to apply to your own online program internal review using the OLC QSAOP. You will be able to identify several strategies that will be effective\, efficient and practical to your institution. \nSpeakers: Rica Young\, Learning Experience Designer\, UCI Paul Merage School of Business \nAmber Parker\, Associate Director\, eLearning Support Services\, UCI Paul Merage School of Business

SUMMARY:Webinar | Content Creation Using AI: How AI Can Be Used to Build Courses and Learning Experiences
DESCRIPTION:A team in the US used ChatGPT to create a 19-module\, 36-hour long micro-credential in less than 20 hours. Their second course took half the time and the third half again. Content engines accelerated the creation of quality content. \nOthers are using AI to convert text-to-speech so presentations offered to students can have a soundtrack which in turn can be translated into one of 60 languages. Others are using the AI-enabled design features of video production suites to create much more engaging online presentations. AI is becoming a content creation partner to produce quality learning materials. \nKey Takeaways \nIn this engaging and interactive introduction to AI-enabled content creation\, you learn: \n•    Which AI resources are available that can help you quickly create quality content.\n•    What you should be cautious about and what we know are problems with AI-enabled content creation.\n•    How to leverage AI text-to-speech and speech-to-text for learning material creation.\n•    How to use the AI design features for a variety of material creation activities.\n•    How content curation is a major opportunity for AI-enabled supports\, especially for students with exceptionalities. \nThroughout the webinar\, we look at examples of current and emerging practice in AI-enabled content creation. \nHost: Dr. Stephen Murgatroyd\,Chief Innovation Officer\, Contact North | Contact Nord

SUMMARY:Webinar | Cultivating Deep Learning Using Discussion Boards
DESCRIPTION:A frequent sentiment that is often heard from instructors of online courses is a general sense of dissatisfaction with traditional discussion board activities. Many report how students are often reluctant to engage in meaningful discourse or how interactions tend toward superficiality and sound something like\, “Hello\, Rob. I agree with your point and couldn’t have said it better myself.” This often leaves instructors feeling frustrated and tempted to abandon traditional discussion boards as a learning tool altogether or in search of alternative means by which to engage learner collaboration. \nAsynchronous discussion boards are a common tool used by instructors in online courses. These forums can provide an outlet to foster the interaction and collaboration that are sometimes lacking in an online learning environment. When students are engaged in conversations in these settings\, the asynchronous nature of discussions can provide them with time to reflect on their responses before interacting with their peers in a way that is often not feasible in a face-to-face discussion. In this way\, when it is used well\, the discussion board can offer the ideal blend of reflection and collaboration that promotes the construction of knowledge in an online learning environment.

SUMMARY:AI Student Cheating Tools – What you don’t know but should.
DESCRIPTION:Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools are making it easier than ever for students to cheat or assist with assignments and tests. Yes\, there has been a movement for proctored online exams and plagiarism tools\, but what about those low-stakes assignments? Is it possible for a student to fake their way through an entire college course? How about an entire college degree? \n  \nIn discovering over 20 FREE AI-assistive technologies\, we have identified various ways these AI tools can be used by students to cheat\, or assist\, their way through their education. While we will not be identifying these tools by name\, there are still common themes between the tools that professors should be aware of. We are only touching the surface of this topic and hope to begin a collaborative discussion about the future of AI in education. \n  \nIn this session we will: \n\nIdentify the different types of cheating tools that could potentially be used.\nDiscuss ideas for how professors may identify potential cheaters.\nDiscuss the ethics of using AI assistive technology in student coursework

SUMMARY:Item Writing Best Practices: Are you testing what you think you are
DESCRIPTION:Whether you need a refresher on recommended methods for item writing or you are brand new to designing evaluation plans for your learners\, this session will help you to gain confidence in writing effective multiple-choice question items that actually test what you intend. Participants will be asked to come with a teaching topic in mind to focus on for this hands-on\, workshop style session. New instructors should bring at least one SMART instructional objective that is relevant to a topic to be taught in the near future. Experienced faculty should bring either a SMART objective or a question or two that you have used in the past that could use some polishing. Prepare to participate!
