SUMMARY:Webinar: Digital Literacy and The Myth of Expertise: Finding a Way In
DESCRIPTION:As digital fully seeps into the communication\, creativity\, and collaboration expectations of students\, there is an increasing need to bring digital literacy and learning into the classroom. But many educators feel inadequate because they lack the requisite technological expertise. As one response\, this guided conversation will unpack the myth of expertise and provide easy-to-use strategies for bringing digital into the classroom.\n\n\nFeaturing: \nJustin Hodgson\nAssistant Professor of Digital Rhetoric at Indiana University Bloomington\,\nFounding Editor of The Journal for Undergraduate Multimedia Projects

SUMMARY:How do YOU pronounce TGLOLEEP?
DESCRIPTION:Teaching and learning has come a long way since the days of rote memorization and “reading\, writin’ and ‘rithmetic”. \nThe acronym TGLO/LE/EP has become a systematic method for course organization and the mapping of curricula. Come learn what TGLO/LE/EP means and the basic steps on making linear connections in your courses/classes between what gets taught\, methods for learning and what gets assessed/evaluated. Please bring one of your syllabi with you so that you can participate in the workshop portion of this presentation

SUMMARY:How Can I Get Students to Engage with Course Content Before Class? Facilitated discussion and video
DESCRIPTION:This program addresses how student misconceptions about course content can become barriers to learning and offers several techniques to help teachers facilitate the adoption of alternative viewpoints in their students. \nThis is a facilitated discussion – we will watch a 20 minute video with frequent breaks to discuss who this technique can be applied to classes here at WesternU. \n\n\n\n Facilitated by:\nTim Wood\, DHSc\, PA-C\n\n\n \nCAPE Director

SUMMARY:What Brain-Based Techniques Can I Use to Engage Students During Class? - Facilitated Discussion
DESCRIPTION:This program demonstrates several techniques to engage student brains in learning. All can be incorporated into either a traditional 50-minute or a longer class period. Since each student’s brain is unique and may learn in different ways\, the presenters offer specific techniques that help vary the learning experience during a typical classroom time-frame. \nThis is a facilitated discussion – we will watch a 20 minute video with frequent breaks to discuss how the topic applies to classes here at WesternU. \n\n\n\n Facilitated by:\nTim Wood\, DHSc\, PA-C\n\n\n\nCAPE Director

SUMMARY:Webinar - 7 Things to Consider Before Developing an Online Course
DESCRIPTION:This webinar gives you strategies to maximize your planning and design time frame? all leading to a more efficient course (i.e. less stress for you when you’re teaching) and a better experience for your students. Join us on January 31 for 7 Things to Consider Before Developing an Online Course\, a Magna Online Seminar led by Brian Udermann\, PhD. You’ll learn how to allow for adequate time to develop a course\, explore avenues to find course content\, prioritize the content students need to learn\, create an instructor participation plan\, determine what course assessments will be used\, estimate the overall workload associated with developing and teaching an online course\, and use existing faculty support services available to help with course design and planning. \nLearning Goals \n\nUnderstanding the benefits of time spent planning on the front-end of developing online courses and how this can lead to both decreased stress for faculty and increased course quality.\nLearn step-by-step planning and preparation actions that will positively impact identifying and developing course content\, activities\, and assessments.\nIdentify the benefits of developing an instructor participation plan\, determining how technology will be used in a course\, and considering workload management in the early stages of course design and development.\n\n  \n\n\n\nPresented by:\nMagna Publications Webinar

SUMMARY:Learning Scripts
DESCRIPTION:Learning Scripts are easy to use and turn planning your class time into a fun activity.  \nNot only do they make it easy & fun\, they assist with connecting learning objectives to learning events and finally to the evaluation plan & assessment items in your course.  \nGetting ready for your next accreditation site visit will go smoothly with the use of templated Learning Scripts. Multiple templates from Learning Blueprints by Laurie Richlin will be reviewed and demonstrated in this lunchtime session. Bring your syllabus with you to participate fully in the workshop activities.  \n  \nPresented by:    Tina Meyer\, DHSc\, PA-C | Assistant Dean of Assessment  and Strategic Collaborations \n

SUMMARY:Facilitated Discussion: Microlearning
DESCRIPTION:As originally presented at the 2018 Learning Solutions Conference & Expo\, in this webinar\, Diane Elkins of Artisan E-Learning and E-Learning Uncovered discusses a case study of 30 microlessons built in 30 days. \nMany learners want shorter nuggest of content.  It can be challenging\, however\, to fit everything they need to do into five-to seven-minute chunks.  In this recorded session\, you’ll walk through a case study of 30 microlessons in 30-days and learn how to minimize formal learning\, allowing learners a chance to try techniques immediately. Next\, put this new knowledge into practice with Diane’s worksheet: “How to Design a Microlesson.”  As a group we will discuss the recorded lecture and brainstorm ideas of how microlessons can be used at the university. \nIn this session\, you will learn: \n\nHow to focus your microlearning designs on practice and application\nHow to pick a narrow\, targeted topic that learners can explore in a short period of time\nHow to incorporate teaching points throughout an interaction\, rather than use the “teach then quiz” model\n\n  \n\n\n\nFacilitated by:\nTracy A. Moore\n\n\n\nCAPE Instructional Designer\n\n\nPresented by:\nDiane Elkins\n\n\n\nArtisan E-Learning and E-Learning Uncovered\n\n\nWhere:\nPomona: Bartlett Theatre HPC\n\n\n\nLebanon: Contact CAPE for viewing options\n\n\nWhen:\nTuesday\, December 4\, 2018\n\n\nTime:\n12:00 pm – 1:00pm.  (Lunch will be provided)\n\n\n\nPlease register 24 hours in advance
