SUMMARY:Get to know OSCQR—The Course Evaluation Rubric
DESCRIPTION:Created by a team of educators from SUNY (The State University of New York)\, the OSCQR rubric is used as a customizable tool for online quality course review. From the SUNY website\, the OSCQR rubric is described as “unique and differs from other online course quality rubrics in several ways. It is not restricted to mature online courses. The rubric can be used formatively with new online faculty to help guide\, inform\, and influence the design of their new online courses\, and it is non-evaluative.” \n  \nIn this session\, the CETL Instructional Designers will take learners through the various criteria within the OSCQR rubric and will describe the process of online course review and evaluation. \n  \nLearning Objectives: \n\nList and describe the criteria within the OSCQR rubric.\nDescribe the Action Plan section of the rubric and how it is used.\nDescribe and discuss the process of online course review and evaluation\, including the process of creating an action plan.

SUMMARY:Webinar - Don’t Ignore the D.E.A.: Design\, Equity\, and Access in Online Education | Quality Matters
DESCRIPTION:The “digital divide” was a term coined in 2012 to describe the disparity amongst those students who did have internet access and those who did not (Van Dijk\, 2012). Research indicates teacher preparation and quality of teaching is the leading factor in student success. Poor preparation and inadequate quality of design strategies can deprive students of equitable use and access to optimal digital-based learning experiences (Delgado\, 2019). In this session\, we will discuss how through the incorporation of intentional design strategies\, strategies that promote equity and access\, we can create more inclusive learning experiences for our students. \n  \nPresented by Stephanie Delgado\, Senior Instructional Designer\, Florida International University

SUMMARY:Webinar: Partnerships in Instruction: Deepening Collaboration Among Instructional Support Staff\, Faculty and Students | Educause
DESCRIPTION:Teaching and learning is of critical importance to academic libraries as they seek to align themselves with the mission of their universities. To effectively support faculty in their teaching\, librarians and other instructional support staff need techniques and tools to foster collaboration. The demand for online instructional support during the pandemic affirmed the necessary role of libraries in assisting students and faculty. Join us to discuss how librarians might join forces with instructional support staff such as learning designers\, instructional technologists\, professional developers for centers of teaching and learning to enhance collaborative work with faculty and students. Questions we will explore together include: \n\nWhat are your challenges in supporting courses?\nHow can we enhance our collaboration to better support courses?\nWhat processes and relationships do we need for collaborative instructional support?\nWhat kind of professional development and/or workplace learning among staff and faculty might support these efforts?\n\nThe main audience for this QuickTalk is instructional librarians\, instructional technologists\, learning designers\, professional development staff (in centers of teaching and learning)\, and other instructional support staff who would like to collaborate to improve teaching and learning. \nFacilitated by:  John McCormick\, Associate Director of Learning Design | Brandeis University\, Waltham Massachusetts   \n                           Kathe Pelletier\, Director\, Teaching and Learning Program | Educause\, Washington\, District of Columbia \n

SUMMARY:Getting Started with Quality Matters
DESCRIPTION:Quality Matters began with a small group of Maryland colleagues who were trying to solve a common problem among institutions: how do we measure and guarantee the quality of a course? This question became important because many institutions were trying to create a system where they could share available seats in their online courses with other institutions. Because of this\, they worked to create courses of quality for their students\, regardless of where the course originated. In 2003\, the colleagues created the Quality Matters program\, which would create a scalable process for course quality assurance.  \nIn this session\, participants will be introduced to Quality Matters and how it can be helpful in effective course development. Participants will also look at some of the rubrics that are central to Quality Matters implementation.   \n  \n  \nSession Objectives:  \n\nProvide background and overview of Quality Matters  \nReview Quality Matters rubrics for higher education \nDescribe the benefits of using Quality Matters for course quality and development \n\n

SUMMARY:Connecting Educational Concepts with Mind Mapping Techniques
DESCRIPTION:Mind mapping is a technique used to visually outline information. By using words\, pictures and diagrams\, mind mapping can help professors teach connections in course material\, as well as help students study. \n  \nThe main concept\, or idea\, is at the center of the mind map. From the nucleus-center\, themes associated with the main concept branch out; and from each of these themes\, additional branches or twigs begin to grow as attributing information begins to unveil itself as a subset of the theme or idea. Mind mapping technique can help students visualize subject content and conceptually display how various ideas are interconnected. \n  \nIn this CETL Session we will: \n– explain the basic theory of mind mapping \n– identify how larger concepts can be broken down into smaller themes and ideas \n– list various educational technology tools to assist in the creation of a mind map \n– identify example mind maps used in medical education \n– apply new knowledge by creating a mind map \n

SUMMARY:Webinar: Ten Features of the Future of Learning Beyond School: How Can We Build Back Better?
DESCRIPTION:The future is not a straight line from the past. As universities and colleges come to terms with some new realities – operational\, financial\, logistical\, ethical – what does their future look like? What needs to change? What will change? \nThe Challenge \nCOVID-19 has been a game changer for governments\, universities and colleges. They now need to imagine a different future – one with fewer international students\, less money\, more flexible and different approaches to learning\, new competitors and new approaches to credentials\, skills and competencies. \nGovernments and employers are also looking towards colleges and universities to respond to urgent needs to upskill and reskill the workforce\, many of whom are deeply impacted by changes in the employment landscape. Whole sectors – hospitality and tourism\, airlines\, retail – have been massively impacted. \nAlready\, some universities and colleges around the world have closed. Others are reducing programs and services and more changes are on the horizon. In Canada\, some governments are investing in post-secondary education while others are making dramatic reductions in funding. All governments are exploring new approaches to apprenticeship and skills. What is on the horizon in terms of policy\, funding and expectations? \nThis presentation will build on recent contributions to the work on strategic foresight related to post-secondary education and the place of technology in the future of learning. \nKey Takeaways \nAs a result of this presentation\, you will better understand: \n\nThe social\, economic and political challenges facing colleges\, universities and training organizations in Canada.\nThe five big challenges colleges and universities face as we begin to imaging a post-pandemic world.\nThe ten dominant change features of post-secondary education post-pandemic.\nThe three imperatives for a different future which are required from policy makers and institutional leaders.\n\n\n\n\nTags: COVID & Online Learning \n\n\nHost:\n\n\n\n\nDr. Stephen Murgatroyd\nContact North | Contact Nord Research Associate\n\n\nDr. Stephen Murgatroyd\, FRSA teaches strategic foresight at the University of Alberta and University of Toronto and strategic management at Athabasca University. A pioneer of online learning – he led the team that created the world’s first fully online MBA in 1994 – he also serves as Contact North | Contact Nord’s Chief Innovation Officer. \nStephen has authored over forty books\, including two on strategic foresight\, and has consulted for educational organizations and governments in Paraguay\, Chile\, New Zealand\, USA\, Canada\, Australia\, Dubai\, UK\, Hong Kong\, China\, South Africa and Europe.
