SUMMARY:Everything is Awesome…with IPE
DESCRIPTION:Interprofessional practice and education is a collaborative team-based approach to patient care. WesternU IPE promotes and supports a shared knowledge of health care professions that help teach students how to deliver better patient care.  We know that sometimes cultivating cross-discipline collaboration can be challenging.  In this session we will recognize the importance of ongoing IPE and work toward developing teamwork across professions. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nDefine the four ways we need to change the health care system\, as provided by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement.\nIdentity the two reasons why it is difficult to apply interprofesionalism into the workplace.\nIllustrate your understanding of interprofessionalism through a problem-solving teamwork activity.

SUMMARY:Faculty Focus: Converting your Lecture Course into Team-Based Learning
DESCRIPTION:Team-based learning (TBL) is a collaborative teaching and learning strategy that uses a structured process to enhance student engagement and the quality of student learning.  TBL faculty report high levels of student attendance\, preparation\, participation and critical thinking.  TBL students report enjoying class\, and being more motivated and actively engaged. \nFor the current Spring term\, Dr. Yawen Peng\, DMD\, MA has transformed her lecture-based course\, Intro to Pediatric Medicine\, into a dynamic and fully engaged Team-Based Learning course for her 70 Biomedical Science students. \nDuring this session we will hear from Dr. Peng about her experience in changing the pedagogy and course structure.  How did she start to prepare for the Lecture-to-TBL transition?  What worked?  What didn’t?  How have the students reacted to the TBL format this year\, as compared to the Lecture format of last year? \nCome to this Faculty Focus session and learn\, peer-to-peer\, how to convert your lecture-format into an invigorating Team-Based Learning course! \n

SUMMARY:Webinar - Getting Research Ideas With the Aim of Publication
DESCRIPTION:Please join us in the first of a series in free webinars sponsored by the Team-Based Learning Collaborative\, focusing on generating research ideas with an aim at getting that scholarly work published. Many who are teaching-focused would like to (or need to) publish papers\, but may not have access to research data in a particular discipline. This TBLC Research and Scholarship webinar is the first in a series that features a wide range of research that members have published. \nThis inaugural webinar deals with what is possibly the hardest step in the research process\, which is to find a workable research idea that draws on our classroom activities. This poses a challenge\, because for most of us teaching/education is an unfamiliar discipline\, and it may be hard to see how we can draw on our own “technical” discipline research experience for guidance. \nDr. Balan’s field of expertise is entrepreneurship and innovation\, but he has built a research stream in education/pedagogy and has set up collaborative research projects with TBLC members in different countries. His view is that every time we walk into a classroom we should see the students in front of us as a potential dataset and that there are many possible research ideas that emerge out of our teaching\, and out of reflecting on student attitudes and perceptions in general. \nDr. Balan will talk through a practical approach for generating research ideas\, and will use some of his current projects to bring to life the first steps in the research process\, which is to identify a research idea and then to turn this into a research question that can be explored using data provided by your students. \nPresenter:\nDr. Peter Balan\, OAM |  University of South Australia Business School
