SUMMARY:Webinar | How To Improve Assessment and Feedback Practice
DESCRIPTION:Post-secondary institutions note that changing assessment practice has become a key priority. So\, what could the future of assessment and feedback look like? \nThe digital transformation of the education sector over the past two years — whether as an acceleration of a planned strategy or an emergency response — has changed the priorities for higher education. \nValuable lessons have been learned about equity\, learning design and interoperability. The move away from traditional exams to other forms of assessment has seen many students\, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds\, perform better. \nThe future of assessment and feedback looks promising. But key to this is shaping a future where accessible\, inclusive and compassionate practices are designed with student needs and experiences in mind. \nIn this webinar\, you’ll learn the seven principles of good assessment and feedback. Based on a sound body of evidence of good pedagogic practice from across the UK and internationally\, these principles can be applied to all aspects of learning design and teaching in all sectors of education. They offer an actionable way to improve learning\, teaching and assessment\, underpinned by the effective application of technology. \n  \nKey Takeaways \n  \nYou’ll come away from this engaging and interactive webinar with an understanding of how to: \n\nHelp learners understand what they are aiming for by engaging them with the requirements and performance criteria for each task\nSupport learners’ personalized needs by being accessible\, inclusive and compassionate\nFoster active learning by recognizing that engagement with learning resources\, tutors and peers offer opportunities for formative development\nDevelop autonomous learners by encouraging self-generated feedback\, self-regulation\, reflection\, dialogue and peer review\nManage workloads effectively by having the right assessment\, at the right time\, supported by efficient business processes\nFoster a motivated learning community by involving students in decision making and supporting staff in developing their own practices\nPromote learner employability by assessing authentic tasks and encouraging ethical conduct\n\n

SUMMARY:Webinar | How is the Pandemic Affecting the Future of OER?
DESCRIPTION:Multiple surveys of students\, faculty\, and administrators have all shown that the pandemic is producing fundamental changes in teaching and learning across all higher education. All groups report more optimistic views of online and hybrid learning\, as well as a greater desire for technology integration in all courses. Resistance to the use of digital materials is disappearing\, with students and faculty both expressing a greater desire to replace print materials with digital. \nMany of these changes bode well for the future growth of OER adoption. However\, other trends\, such as the time required for faculty to mold their courses into new formats have prevented them from spending the time required to find and adopt new materials. Likewise\, commercial publishers have embraced many of these changes and now represent a very different alternative than they were prior to the pandemic. Which of these competing pressures will prevail? \nAttendees will gain a much fuller understanding of OER\, allowing them to better understand if OER is an appropriate option for their institution and/or teaching. \nSpeakers: Jeff Seaman\, Ph.D. | Director – Bay View Analytics \n                 Julia Seaman\, Ph.D. | Director of Research – Bay View Analytics \n                 Daniel Williamson  | Managing Director – OpenStax

SUMMARY:Webinar - How to Design a Micro-Credential that Meets Demand (Contact North/Nord)
DESCRIPTION:Canada has about 10\,000 micro-credentials. But many do not meet the definition of what they are intended to be: short\, focused\, intensive learning linked to skills that are in demand from employers\, industry or a profession. The situation is similar in the U.S. and Europe. The important question is how to design and develop micro-credentials that help more people find jobs\, change jobs or develop the skills they need to keep the jobs they already have. What needs to change in the current approach to this fast-changing form of learning? What can Canadian educators learn from developments elsewhere in the world? \nKey Takeaways \nBy participating in this webinar\, you will: \n\nUnderstand the current state of micro-credentials in Canada and the U.S. including those offered by MOOC providers (Coursera\, edX and FutureLearn) and industry.\nRecognize the five major limitations of the current offerings\nExamine an assessment-driven approach to skills and competency development linked to gap-based microlearning.\nAssess five major design changes needed to make micro-credentials work for students\, employers and communities.\nExplore the future of micro-credentials and long-form credentials: Are they gamechangers or “old wine in new bottles?\n\nFacilitator:   Stephen Murgatroyd | Chief Innovation Officer\, Contact North| Contact Nord

SUMMARY:Webinar - Don’t Ignore the D.E.A.: Design\, Equity\, and Access in Online Education | Quality Matters
DESCRIPTION:The “digital divide” was a term coined in 2012 to describe the disparity amongst those students who did have internet access and those who did not (Van Dijk\, 2012). Research indicates teacher preparation and quality of teaching is the leading factor in student success. Poor preparation and inadequate quality of design strategies can deprive students of equitable use and access to optimal digital-based learning experiences (Delgado\, 2019). In this session\, we will discuss how through the incorporation of intentional design strategies\, strategies that promote equity and access\, we can create more inclusive learning experiences for our students. \n  \nPresented by Stephanie Delgado\, Senior Instructional Designer\, Florida International University

SUMMARY:Webinar: Ten Features of the Future of Learning Beyond School: How Can We Build Back Better?
DESCRIPTION:The future is not a straight line from the past. As universities and colleges come to terms with some new realities – operational\, financial\, logistical\, ethical – what does their future look like? What needs to change? What will change? \nThe Challenge \nCOVID-19 has been a game changer for governments\, universities and colleges. They now need to imagine a different future – one with fewer international students\, less money\, more flexible and different approaches to learning\, new competitors and new approaches to credentials\, skills and competencies. \nGovernments and employers are also looking towards colleges and universities to respond to urgent needs to upskill and reskill the workforce\, many of whom are deeply impacted by changes in the employment landscape. Whole sectors – hospitality and tourism\, airlines\, retail – have been massively impacted. \nAlready\, some universities and colleges around the world have closed. Others are reducing programs and services and more changes are on the horizon. In Canada\, some governments are investing in post-secondary education while others are making dramatic reductions in funding. All governments are exploring new approaches to apprenticeship and skills. What is on the horizon in terms of policy\, funding and expectations? \nThis presentation will build on recent contributions to the work on strategic foresight related to post-secondary education and the place of technology in the future of learning. \nKey Takeaways \nAs a result of this presentation\, you will better understand: \n\nThe social\, economic and political challenges facing colleges\, universities and training organizations in Canada.\nThe five big challenges colleges and universities face as we begin to imaging a post-pandemic world.\nThe ten dominant change features of post-secondary education post-pandemic.\nThe three imperatives for a different future which are required from policy makers and institutional leaders.\n\n\n\n\nTags: COVID & Online Learning \n\n\nHost:\n\n\n\n\nDr. Stephen Murgatroyd\nContact North | Contact Nord Research Associate\n\n\nDr. Stephen Murgatroyd\, FRSA teaches strategic foresight at the University of Alberta and University of Toronto and strategic management at Athabasca University. SUMMARY:Webinar: The Hybrid Campus: How COVID-19 and Technology are Reshaping Colleges and Universities
DESCRIPTION:As higher education leaders\, decision-makers and governments look to the future of colleges and universities\, the decisions they make now will have impacts on our higher education system for years to come. \nThere is no doubt that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a major impact on our colleges and universities. But there is more to come. While many seek a return to “normal”\, they will need to adjust to the new normal. What does this involve? \n• A Hybrid Campus: All services\, not just teaching and learning\, will need to be offered online – advising\, careers guidance\, counseling\, registrar\, finance.\n• Rethinking the Academic Portfolio: Teaching and learning will need to be provided in every case as both blended and online – we can no longer assume that social gatherings in large numbers will be possible. We can also better serve a more diverse population through a hybrid approach.\n• Refocus Learning and the Student Experience – focus on lifelong learning\, engaged and authentic learning\, and collaborative learning experience. Intensify project-based learning and strengthen ties with alumni. \nBecoming hybrid will encourage innovation\, increase access\, improve quality and lower costs. It will be a compelling new model for many colleges and universities\, not just in the U.S. and Canada\, but around the world. It requires a real rethinking and reimagining of all workflows\, technology adoption and opportunities at colleges and universities. \nThere are several institutions already exemplifying some key features of this future – University of Central Florida\, Georgia State University – which will be used to illustrate this thinking. \nIn this interactive webinar\, Cole Clark\, Managing Director of Higher Education at Deloitte and author Jeffrey Selingo\, will share their thinking and the findings from some recent explorations. \n  \nKey Takeaways \n• How the academic portfolio will be reshaped by a shift to the hybrid campus.\n• What the hybrid campus means for the college and university

SUMMARY:Webinar | Anti-Racism in Academia: A Learning Journey - Persist (Educause)
DESCRIPTION:n response to the dialogue across EDUCAUSE community groups and within our personal lives\, a small group of community leaders have developed the Anti-Racism in Academia: A Learning Journey (ARiA) series. The ARiA series was created to inspire a more understanding and inclusive community in higher education by engaging professionals of all levels and across disciplines. We designed the ARiA framework to accomplish three main goals: \n\nCreate safe spaces to explore\, share\, and learn.\nPromote personal and professional growth through expanded awareness and expanded understanding of different racial perspectives.\nEmpower participants to foster a more inclusive and understanding higher ed community with expanded ideas\, perspectives\, and strategies.\n\nSpeakers:  Tonya Bennett | Director of Educational Technology @PennVet\, University of Pennsylvania\, Jonathan B.
