SUMMARY:Webinar: Ten Features of the Future of Learning Beyond School: How Can We Build Back Better?
DESCRIPTION:The future is not a straight line from the past. As universities and colleges come to terms with some new realities – operational\, financial\, logistical\, ethical – what does their future look like? What needs to change? What will change? \nThe Challenge \nCOVID-19 has been a game changer for governments\, universities and colleges. They now need to imagine a different future – one with fewer international students\, less money\, more flexible and different approaches to learning\, new competitors and new approaches to credentials\, skills and competencies. \nGovernments and employers are also looking towards colleges and universities to respond to urgent needs to upskill and reskill the workforce\, many of whom are deeply impacted by changes in the employment landscape. Whole sectors – hospitality and tourism\, airlines\, retail – have been massively impacted. \nAlready\, some universities and colleges around the world have closed. Others are reducing programs and services and more changes are on the horizon. In Canada\, some governments are investing in post-secondary education while others are making dramatic reductions in funding. All governments are exploring new approaches to apprenticeship and skills. What is on the horizon in terms of policy\, funding and expectations? \nThis presentation will build on recent contributions to the work on strategic foresight related to post-secondary education and the place of technology in the future of learning. \nKey Takeaways \nAs a result of this presentation\, you will better understand: \n\nThe social\, economic and political challenges facing colleges\, universities and training organizations in Canada.\nThe five big challenges colleges and universities face as we begin to imaging a post-pandemic world.\nThe ten dominant change features of post-secondary education post-pandemic.\nThe three imperatives for a different future which are required from policy makers and institutional leaders.\n\n\n\n\nTags: COVID & Online Learning \n\n\nHost:\n\n\n\n\nDr. Stephen Murgatroyd\nContact North | Contact Nord Research Associate\n\n\nDr. Stephen Murgatroyd\, FRSA teaches strategic foresight at the University of Alberta and University of Toronto and strategic management at Athabasca University. A pioneer of online learning – he led the team that created the world’s first fully online MBA in 1994 – he also serves as Contact North | Contact Nord’s Chief Innovation Officer. \nStephen has authored over forty books\, including two on strategic foresight\, and has consulted for educational organizations and governments in Paraguay\, Chile\, New Zealand\, USA\, Canada\, Australia\, Dubai\, UK\, Hong Kong\, China\, South Africa and Europe.

SUMMARY:Webinar: How to Use Zoom in the New (Blended) Normal: Models for Student Inclusion and Engagement
DESCRIPTION:As plans ramp up for students and faculty to gradually return to campus this fall and winter\, educators will face a new normal. \nSome pre-pandemic\, face-to-face classes will still be taught fully online. Some will offer students a mix of face-to-face and online study\, while others will be largely face-to-face with an online component. \nZoom will have a significant role to play in all these scenarios\, but remote students may feel alienated and disengaged from their in-class peers unless preventive steps are taken. \nKey Takeaways \nTailored to instructors\, instructional designers and academic administrators\, this engaging webinar shares seven models for Zoom-supported teaching and learning. Host Dr. Ron Owston helps participants understand how to ensure all students are fully included and engaged in these models: \n\nFully synchronous\nBlended synchronous and asynchronous\nFlex blend: Students alternate between attending face-to-face and online according to predetermined schedules\nHyFlex: Students freely choose whether to attend face-to-face or synchronously\nTraditional blend: Mainly face-to-face with an integrated online component\nFlipped: Content delivered online\, students attend in small\, in-person groups for guided/tutorial work\nFace-to-face with Zoom breakout discussion/work groups\n\n\n\n\nTags: Zoom \n\n\nHost:\n\n\n\n\nDr. Ron Owston\nContact North | Contact Nord Research Associate\n\n\nA pioneer in online teaching and research\, Dr. Owston ranks among Google Scholar’s most cited blended learning researchers globally. \nThe founding Director of the Institute for Research in Learning Technologies he is a former Dean of the Faculty of Education and University Professor Emeritus at York University. \nDr. Owston’s webinars on effective use of Zoom for teaching as part of the Contact North I Contact Nord Webinar Series are lauded by educators around the world: \n“I’ve really learned a lot the last 6 or so months watching your Zoom webinars. SUMMARY:Webinar: The Hybrid Campus: How COVID-19 and Technology are Reshaping Colleges and Universities
DESCRIPTION:As higher education leaders\, decision-makers and governments look to the future of colleges and universities\, the decisions they make now will have impacts on our higher education system for years to come. \nThere is no doubt that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a major impact on our colleges and universities. But there is more to come. While many seek a return to “normal”\, they will need to adjust to the new normal. What does this involve? \n• A Hybrid Campus: All services\, not just teaching and learning\, will need to be offered online – advising\, careers guidance\, counseling\, registrar\, finance.\n• Rethinking the Academic Portfolio: Teaching and learning will need to be provided in every case as both blended and online – we can no longer assume that social gatherings in large numbers will be possible. We can also better serve a more diverse population through a hybrid approach.\n• Refocus Learning and the Student Experience – focus on lifelong learning\, engaged and authentic learning\, and collaborative learning experience. Intensify project-based learning and strengthen ties with alumni. \nBecoming hybrid will encourage innovation\, increase access\, improve quality and lower costs. It will be a compelling new model for many colleges and universities\, not just in the U.S. and Canada\, but around the world. It requires a real rethinking and reimagining of all workflows\, technology adoption and opportunities at colleges and universities. \nThere are several institutions already exemplifying some key features of this future – University of Central Florida\, Georgia State University – which will be used to illustrate this thinking. \nIn this interactive webinar\, Cole Clark\, Managing Director of Higher Education at Deloitte and author Jeffrey Selingo\, will share their thinking and the findings from some recent explorations. \n  \nKey Takeaways \n• How the academic portfolio will be reshaped by a shift to the hybrid campus.\n• What the hybrid campus means for the college and university

SUMMARY:Webinar - Building an Inclusive Workplace: Session 2 - Live Recording
DESCRIPTION:Higher education is facing change. How efficiently our IT organizations respond to tightening budgets\, cybersecurity threats\, academic program changes\, and merging service units will depend on inclusive teams. While nimble technology can support many services\, it is the people in an organization who provide creative solutions to challenges. \n Outcomes \n\nRealize that everyone has biases\nUnderstand what an inclusive team is and the value in building a diverse and inclusive workplace\nPlan for a sustainable improvement process including action items for change\nReview the 5 key dynamics of successful teams and the roles and responsibilities to support them\nUnderstand how to support DEI in the workplace through a case study discussion\n\nThis two-part webinar series will discuss how to build inclusive teams and engage participants in the practice of building an inclusive team. We’ll start with a brief background on bias (unconscious and conscious) and how bias affects teams. Research demonstrates that successful change occurs in small but specific increments. By starting small\, we can make a positive impact in our classrooms and across our campuses. We will also discuss building motivation\, developing talent\, and using data to build inclusive teams. \nSpeakers \nMarcia Dority Baker \nAssistant Director\, Academic Technologies\, University of Nebraska – Lincoln \nTodd Jensen \nManager\, IT Service Management\, University of Nebraska ? SUMMARY:Webinar - How to Use Data to Put Learners First
DESCRIPTION:Institutional reports often highlight lagging indicators like pass rates or completion rates\, data that shows what happened after an event took place. Often this information arrives too late for institutional stakeholders to intervene effectively. In this webinar\, we will explore different ways higher education institutions are using their learning management system data to optimize student success and institutional effectiveness before it’s too late to make a difference. We will explore what data is important to supporting institutional success initiatives and how LMS data can be used to bolster and reinforce continuous improvement efforts. \nLearning Outcomes: \n– Recognize ways learner data in the LMS can be used to support student      success/institutional effectiveness. \n– Reflect on how learner data is utilized within your own institution. \n– Share reflections with presenters and participants.
