SUMMARY:Creating the professional biosketch that gets you noticed!
DESCRIPTION:The needs for a healthcare professional to have a current biosketch are many. Conference planners review biosketches when selecting speakers.  Moderators use biosketches when introducing speakers. Colleagues use biosketches when referring professionals.  Many appointment considerations begin with a biosketch. \nWriting a biosketch that gets a person noticed is both an art and science.  Through this presentation\, attendees will gain a better understanding of what material to include in the biosketch that highlights the individual’s talent. \n

SUMMARY:Webinar | How to Engage Silent Learners
DESCRIPTION:Many of us learn best in silence and need time to reflect before saying or writing our thoughts. In synchronous online meetings (and in physical meetings) we often mistake visual and vocal activity for engagement and learning\, while silence is interpreted as a lack of interest or even laziness. \nBecause synchronous meetings tend to be dominated by a vocal minority\, contributions are mostly spontaneous with little time for reflection. There are many reasons people are silent in class or in a meeting. We must develop new methods to allow quiet attendees to present their ideas and engage in discussion instead of being drowned out by their more outspoken colleagues. \nBreakout groups can be very rewarding but only if you already know the rest of the group or have a group of confident\, talkative participants. Many students simply leave the meeting when breakout groups are announced. This is not typically due to a lack of interest but a fear of discussing complex issues with a group of strangers. \nIn this webinar\, you’ll learn how online tools and methods can extend the discussion to engage all participants in the way that suits them best. Simple techniques to make online meetings more inclusive include using more silent reflection time\, written discussion and greater emphasis on the asynchronous activity before and after the synchronous session. \nKey takeaways \nYou’ll come away with a better understanding of how to: \n\nIdentify and understand reasons for silence in online meetings\nUse periods of silence in online meetings to foster reflection and widen the discussion\nCreate engaging and inclusive online activities that do not always depend on video and audio\nPromote the strengths of silent learners through more multimodal online activities\nStretch the meeting through the use of collaborative online tools\nCreate the right preconditions for fruitful breakout sessions\n\nFacilitated by:  Alastair Creelman | e-learning Specialist\, Linnaeus University\, Sweden (now retired)

SUMMARY:CETL & WSC Present: Creating Agendas and Taking Minutes for a More Productive Meeting
DESCRIPTION:In this CETL session\, we will explore how to take minutes in a more clear and actionable way! Setting our meetings up for success starts with the agenda and continues with recording notes that are easy to follow after the meeting is over. \nUsing a template created by the staff at the College of Graduate Nursing (CGN) and adopted by the WesternU Staff Council (WSC) to standardize meeting minutes and clearly identify clear action items\, this presentation will go through our best practices for taking minutes for more efficient (and hopefully shorter) meetings! \nBy the end of this session\, attendees will be better able to: \n\nRecognize the importance of the agenda-setter and recorder\nUnderstand how to capture and organize key ideas in discussion and how it helps meeting/team morale\nDifferentiate between discussion\, decisions\, and action items\nDescribe the flow of an action item from being added to be closed out\n\n  \nWho should attend? Any WesternU employee who host or takes notes/minutes for meetings (normally recurring) where there are action items that will need to be completed.

SUMMARY:Badges? We don’t need no stinking badges…Or do we?
DESCRIPTION:We may not be Troop Beverly Hills\, but CETL badges are a great way to encourage group attendance and reward participation. A digital badge is a visual symbol that represents the development of a new skill that can be displayed\, accessed\, and verified online. Badges typically represent competencies not shown on a transcript\, including learning from professional development\, volunteer work\, and other co-curricular activities. Digital badges are becoming popular because of the benefits they provide for both workers and employers. For professionals\, badges demonstrate proof of their skills and accomplishments\, which they can display on their online professional profiles\, in their email signatures\, and on social media. \n  \nIn this session we will: \n\nDiscuss Digital Badges & Micro-Credentials\nIdentify & compare various digital badging platforms\nExplain the back-end process of attendance to awarding the badge to sharing the badge\nDescribe CETL’s Digital Badge Program\nShare examples of where one might implement digital badging

SUMMARY:Rubric Writing for Inline Grading in Elentra
DESCRIPTION:Writing rubrics doesn’t need to be a daunting task. The initial investment in time pays off when it cuts the time for grading of each individual assignment\, as well as provides students the feedback they need to improve their learning. With Elentra\, rubrics can be created that speed up the workflow for grading for the instructor and provide feedback to the student in one stop. This will make for a streamlined workflow in grading assignments\, SOAP notes\, papers\, and completion certificates. SUMMARY:IAMSE Webinar -Breaking Barriers for Racial/Ethnic Groups Underrepresented in the Health Professions
DESCRIPTION:  \nUnderrepresentation of Black\, Indigenous\, and people of color (BIPOC) in the health professions limits the U.S. health care system’s ability to meet the needs of people in these racial/ethnic groups. A growing body of research shows that patient-physician concordance of race\, language\, and social characteristics strengthen the patient-physician relationship through higher levels of trust and satisfaction. This webinar will describe the barriers that BIPOC persons face in pursuing health professions education\, present a framework for conceptualizing strategies for improving recruitment\, retention\, and academic success among BIPOC health professions trainees\, and describe examples of these strategies. The presentation will focus primarily on examples from medicine and the basic sciences. \n  \n  \nSpeaker:  Janet Coffman\, PhD\, University of California\, San Francisco

SUMMARY:IAMSE Webinar - The Off-Cycle Curriculum: Intention vs. Impact
DESCRIPTION:The current landscape of undergraduate medical education provides foundations at varying depths of knowledge that will not only be needed for board examinations but also progressively needed for the clinical years as well. The ongoing challenge of undergraduate medical education is displayed by curriculum calendars and the volumes of content consumed by students and produced by schools. These challenges manifest themselves in a small percentage of students failing to meet the minimal competency and then being asked to repeat a year or a course. Awareness of the many influencing factors on the curriculum illustrates the need for a bridge to help the struggling student but also provides the tools\, time\, and resources to ensure the student is able to be successful moving forward. \nThe offering of the off-cycle curriculum is a mechanism for allowing students in the DO program an opportunity to complete the pre-clinical portion of the DO curriculum in 3 years instead of the traditional 2 years. The offering of this program is strictly voluntary and cannot be required for student participation. The off-cycle curriculum offers the student an opportunity to significantly improve course performance outcomes by decelerating a required portion of the curriculum. The decelerated pace of progressing through the curriculum allows the student to learn the material and create new habits to become a lifelong learner. Although this differs from the traditional Flexner model\, it takes into consideration the type of students who are matriculating into our medical school program. These students range from the students newly progressing from their undergraduate studies to the student who is progressing from the workforce. This curriculum is a chance to establish the foundation needed to not only matriculate through medical school but also become a successful physician. Any student who is enrolled in the off-cycle curriculum must successfully complete all required courses of the first and second preclinical curriculum. Upon decelerating\, students in the off-cycle curriculum will delay their graduation by one year\, and are subject to revisions in curriculum requirements and changes in tuition and fees of their new graduating class. \n  \nRobert  Walker\, PhD| Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine
