SUMMARY:Canvas Tips & Tricks
DESCRIPTION:This session will cover how two major topics on Canvas: \n\nHow to set up office hours for students.\nHow to set up question banks in Canvas.\n\nCanvas office hours helps faculty reduce the number of back-and-forth scheduling emails\, and gives the faculty an idea as to who will be attending their office hours whether virtual or in person. \nQuestion banks allow for customization of quizzes so that there is a decreased risk of cheating between students.

SUMMARY:Five Pillars of the Mind: Redesigning Education to Suit the Brain
DESCRIPTION:Come participate in this “reader’s digest book club” session that will summarize the current book and theory  by Tracey Tokuhama-Espinosa and provide starting points for some great conversations regarding teaching and curriculum.\nThe Five Pillars of the Mind discusses a new way of looking at and categorizing knowledge and information. This new model is not meant to replace Bloom’s Taxonomy or any of the other models\, but works as a great overlay to any of these theories or taxonomies. The Five Pillars also provides a great “hook” for teaching students new ways of learning. You will surely come away with learning something new from this session. \nSession objectives. \n\nList and describe the Five Pillars\nDiscuss how the Five Pillars can complement other learning theories and taxonomies\nDiscuss how each of the Five Pillars can be used in the classroom

SUMMARY:Webinar – How to Help Online Learning Students Manage Their Vulnerabilities and Grow Their Resilience
DESCRIPTION:“This is a Partner Webinar will be hosted by the Grit & Growth Mindset Faculty Learning Community” \nSome students are more vulnerable than others. Some students are more vulnerable at particular points in their journey than others\, and these vulnerabilities can be either temporary or occurrent. Some students manage their vulnerability and risk of\, for example\, falling behind\, others not so much. \nFor colleges and universities\, the challenge for faculty is to not exacerbate vulnerabilities\, but to engage students to find ways to help them grow their resilience. \nJoin Professor Paul Prinsloo from the University of South Africa (UNISA) as he outlines the competencies faculty and instructors require to respond to student vulnerability and encourage resiliency in the context of remote teaching during the pandemic. Five key questions are addressed: \n\nHow do we understand (student) vulnerability and resilience?\nHow do we identify these vulnerabilities?\nWhat student data do we use and why?\nWhat are our assumptions about these data/categories?\nHow can we prevent vulnerabilities in our systems and help students build their resiliency?\n\nProfessor Prinsloo also reviews the risks we need to be aware of in relation to data-use and privacy. Four Key Takeaways: \n\nAn understanding of student vulnerabilities and resilience\, particularly “at risk” students.\nAn ability to look at how the behaviour of others heighten student vulnerabilities.\nA knowledge of how analytics can be used to help faculty\, instructors and other service professionals to support vulnerable students.\nAn appreciation of the “downside” of data and analytics as the basis for interventions.

SUMMARY:How to Transform Instructor-led Activities Into E-Learning Interactions with Storyline 360 (Partner Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:With traditional classroom training\, learners have the benefit of an instructor in the room to provide context and feedback that guides them through the learning experience. But e-learning is asynchronous\, meaning you may not have facilitated group interaction or discussion. When you need to transform classroom training into e-learning\, how do you maintain the richness of an instructor-led experience—but without an instructor? How much content should you share with your learners? How do you help them feel supported and engaged? \nIn this webinar\, we’ll walk you through what you need to know about transforming instructor-led training into e-learning.

SUMMARY:What is this File? Managing Your Digital Records
DESCRIPTION:We all manage various types of digital files as we do our jobs? whether it is spreadsheets\, word documents or photos.  But one challenging part of creating files is managing them so you can not only find them but open them at a later date.  We’ll talk about best practices for managing your digital files and folders. As the digital archivist\, I will also tell you about the work I do and give you a quick introduction to University Archives and our digital collections.  \n  \nBy the end of this session\, participants will be able to: \n\n\n\n\nExplain why properly managing your files is important.\n\n\nImplement best practices when it comes to naming files\, creating different versions of files\, and preserving files.\n\n\nNavigate to the University Archives digital collections.

SUMMARY:Webinar | Anti-Racism in Academia: A Learning Journey – Learn (Partner Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:In response to the dialogue across EDUCAUSE community groups and within our personal lives\, a small group of community leaders have developed the Anti-Racism in Academia: A Learning Journey (ARiA) series. The ARiA series was created to inspire a more understanding and inclusive community in higher education by engaging professionals of all levels and across disciplines. Combatting racism on a personal\, professional\, and communal scale requires time and intentional effort; it really is a journey of discovery and understanding. \nThe ARiA series framework is organized into five parts: Reach Out\, Listen\, Learn\, Act\, Persist. \nThis month’s focus is on Learning from the conversations and shared resources with the goal of achieving conscientiousness around racism. Come join us for the kickoff webinar\, and sign-up for a breakout discussion. \nOutcomes\nWe want to enable participants to get the most out of their learning journey. We designed the ARiA framework to accomplish three main goals: \n\nCreate safe spaces to explore\, share\, and learn.\nPromote personal and professional growth through expanded awareness and expanded understanding of different racial perspectives.\nEmpower participants to foster a more inclusive and understanding higher ed community with expanded ideas\, perspectives\, and strategies.\n\nBelow is the link to register for the webinar. \nhttps://apps.cirrusidentity.com/console/ds/index?entityID=https%3A%2F%2Fsso.educause.edu%2Fsp&return=https%3A%2F%2Fsso.educause.edu%2Fmodule.php%2Fsaml%2Fsp%2Fdiscoresp.php%3FAuthID%3D_7ec2c75c8a02870f724034f3dc9607e625d2f76102%253Ahttps%253A%252F%252Fsso.educause.edu%252Fidp%252FstartSSO.ping%253Fspentityid%253Durn%25253Acvent%25253Aevents%2526RelayState%253Dhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fwww.cvent.com%25252Fd%25252F37qq9f%25252F4W%2526cookieTime%253D1601050673&returnIDParam=idpentityid
