SUMMARY:How to Prepare Students for Learning in Times of Uncertainty
DESCRIPTION:How can we help prepare students for an increasingly uncertain world? How do we handle a situation with too much information\, too many competing interests and too many variables at work? \nAnswers are everywhere\, but which one do we choose? \nFor millennia\, our approach to learning has been the process of eliminating uncertainty. We look for the solution and remember it. We solve problems. We get the answer right. That’s how we’ve been taught to learn. Find an authority\, find their answer\, remember it. We now face the opposite problem. Advice is abundant. Solutions are everywhere. \nThis webinar explores the notions of learning in times of uncertainty\, how to teach for uncertainty versus teaching the basics\, and how we can help prepare students for an uncertain future.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Value for Money: Should Online Education be Cheaper?
DESCRIPTION:The COVID-19 outbreak led to a massive uptake in online education worldwide and rapidly formed or changed public opinions about the quality of online education. As a result\, there is a debate developing on whether online education provides value for money\, shaped by institutions’ concerns about cost effectiveness and students’ requests for tuition refunds. \nIn the post-pandemic era\, online education has become integrated into educational practices. More institutions than ever exploit online education to increase enrolments and revenues\, but this doesn’t guarantee the pedagogical quality of their online programs. On the other hand\, students who choose to participate in online education also bring certain expectations about its accessibility and flexibility — and expect it to be cheaper than face-to-face education. \nThis webinar is a conversation framed by different global perspectives and experiences in online education\, exploring the value-for-money topic by asking “Should online education be cheaper?”

SUMMARY:AI Student Cheating Tools – What you don’t know but should.
DESCRIPTION:Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools are making it easier than ever for students to cheat or assist with assignments and tests. Yes\, there has been a movement for proctored online exams and plagiarism tools\, but what about those low-stakes assignments? Is it possible for a student to fake their way through an entire college course? How about an entire college degree? \n  \nIn discovering over 20 FREE AI-assistive technologies\, we have identified various ways these AI tools can be used by students to cheat\, or assist\, their way through their education. While we will not be identifying these tools by name\, there are still common themes between the tools that professors should be aware of. We are only touching the surface of this topic and hope to begin a collaborative discussion about the future of AI in education. \n  \nIn this session we will: \n\nIdentify the different types of cheating tools that could potentially be used.\nDiscuss ideas for how professors may identify potential cheaters.\nDiscuss the ethics of using AI assistive technology in student coursework

SUMMARY:Webinar | The Dual Role of Faculty Advising in Faculty Leadership and Student Success: A Time for Discussion
DESCRIPTION:As Carol Moore notes in her article\, “Advising: Meeting Student Needs?”\, “only 22% of colleges have the advising function staffed by professional advisors.” At schools with professional advisors\, students often encounter a well-oiled machine of advising that transitions them from their first years of college with a general advisor to more focused work with a major-specific faculty member or advisor. Students at institutions without professional advisors need that same kind of support and guidance in navigating their academic careers\, and if they do not receive it\, they may struggle to retain at the institution. At the majority of institutions\, meanwhile\, undergraduate students are too often left with faculty advisors who are neither trained nor given the time to provide appropriate advising. \nJoin us for a one-hour facilitated discussion on the challenges of faculty advising and how to equip faculty with the skills to be successful advisors. You’ll have the opportunity to discuss how your institution prepares faculty for advising\, as well as what changes you’d need to make to incorporate advising as service into promotion and tenure portfolios. The author\, Carol Moore\, will be present to answer your questions and share her thoughts about the changes needed to ensure student success in today’s higher ed landscape. \nFacilitator:   Carol Moore.
